Omni-Tools

Omni-tools are multipurpose diagnostic and manufacturing tools used for a variety of battlefield tasks, such as hacking, decryption, or repair. They are equipped by Engineers, Sentinels, and Infiltrators to make use of their tech talents. When equipped, an omni-tool appears over a person’s left hand and forearm as an orange hologram. An omni-tool can be reconfigured to appear over the right hand for a left-handed user, but this appears to be rare, as only Jacob Taylor and Garrus Vakarian have been seen having done so.

Omni-tools are handheld devices that combine a computer microframe, sensor analysis pack, and minifacturing fabricator. Versatile and reliable, an omni-tool can be used to analyze and adjust the functionality of most standard equipment, including weapons and armor, from a distance.
The fabrication module can rapidly assemble small three-dimensional objects from common, reusable industrial plastics, ceramics, and light alloys. This allows for field repairs and modifications to most standard items, as well as the reuse of salvaged equipment and applying medicine from stimulants to medi-gel.
Omni-tools are standard issue for soldiers and first-in colonists.

All Omni-tools have a response and signal rating.(see SR4 page 212) Response is the raw processing power and speed of the omni-tool. Signal is the broadcasting power and range. Omni tools need an operating system to function. OS have ratings of firewall and system. Firewall is built in security. It protects against unauthorized access . The better the rating more likely it will fend off intrusions or exploits from another omni-tool user. The system rating is the stability and capabilities of the OS.(in this version , the System rating will rarely come up)
Many of an Omni-tools functions are limited by their response rating.

Name Response Signal Cost
Aldrin Labs Bluewire 1 2 100
Sirta Foundation Chameleon Tool 1 3 300
Elkoss Combine Cypher Tool 2 3 700
Amali Council Nexus 2 4 1000
Kassa Fabrication Polaris 3 3 1250
Ariake Technologies Logic Arrest tool 3 4 2500
Serrice Council Savant 4 3 3000
Spectre gear HMOT 4 5 5000
Spectre gear HMOT II 4 5 8000

All Omni-tools have a simple holographic interface, a commlink, a flashlight, a fabrication module capable of making simple tools but if more complex items need to be constructed a KIT (SR4) must be added.
If they want to use a Tactical cloak, a holo projector must be installed. (the basic holo is insufficient)

Omni Tools can take the following modules with negligible increase in weight :

-AR Gloves, allow tactile feedback 50 credits
-Biomonitor, capable of taking detailed readings of skin and blood samples, measuring vitals and a limited MAD scanner allows it to locate foreign bodies in patients. Attempting first aid with an omni-tool that does not have one will incur a -2 dice penalty. It is a very common addition. 300 credits.
-Satellite Link,Very common in military omni-tools, allows contact with orbiting craft .500 credits

holo projector, allows detailed colour holographic projections . 200 credits

white noise generator, Rating x 50 credits , availability rating+1
-Tool Kit (represents onboard mini fabber), allows complex items such as grenades to be made.Requires raw materials (most commonly use omnigel) 500 credits.

-Atmosphere sensor(needs to be calibrated to each planet ), Helps predict weather patterns.
Rating x25 credits
-Geiger counter, measures x-rays, gamma rays and other energy emissions. 50 credits
-Camera, a high resolution camera. limited holo recording. 100 credits.
-GPS 50 credits (requires public access satellites)
-Radio signal scanner. Scans for and locks onto local radio traffic. Essential for hacking attacks as it creates an index of all local wireless equipment allowing the user to targeted hacking attack such as overload or sabotage. Rating X25 credits
